First in Nepal: Education
Due to the Rana regime(1846-1950), Nepal was far behind in education (at least 100 years) because when Japan was opening to the world in Meiji restoration (1856) Nepal was closing to the world at the similar time. In the first modern school, Durbar High School, only children of elite people were admitted and for the higher education people even need to take permission from the Rana government. Only after the downfall of Rana regime in 1950 education was available to all.
Following facts shows the history of modern education in Nepal.
Modern School: Durbar High School (1854)
First SLC exam ( Grade 10 or equivalent to GCE) in Nepal: 1934
College: Trichandra College (1918)
University: Tribhuvan University (1959)
